Meet MashCash: The Stored-Value Platform for Meal Stipends, Vouchers, and Reloadable Balances

MashCash is Mashgin’s built-in stored-value and spend-management platform for closed-loop prepaid programs. It lets organizations seamlessly issue, distribute, and track vouchers, meal stipends, and reloadable balances within the Mashgin ecosystem.

For cardholders, it makes spending perks simple: no digging for personal cards, no filing expense reports, and no keeping track of paper meal vouchers. Just a quick tap of a badge or phone, an on-screen balance update, and lunch in seconds. For administrators, it means automating stipend cycles, cutting down manual reconciliations, and retaining clear spend control.

Supported Card Types

Different programs need different kinds of value. MashCash supports several card types:

  • Single-Use Voucher: A one-time card for guest meals, events, employee perks, or other one-time benefits. It expires after one scan.
  • Multi-Use Voucher: A fixed balance that can be used across multiple purchases until it runs out.
  • Stored Value: Reloadable balances for ongoing programs.
  • Reload: Value that refreshes on the schedule and amount you set.
  • Payroll Deduct: A card type that lets employees pay for purchases through payroll deductions. The balance resets on a date you choose and is passed to your payroll provider.

This flexibility lets an organization run multiple programs without creating a separate process—or working with a separate vendor—for each one.

Card Programs

Card Programs apply shared settings across a group of cards. Administrators can define details such as starting balance, reload schedule, expiration, cost center, and program-level controls.

For example, a company could create a “Daily Employee Lunch” program and apply the same allowance and schedule to every eligible employee. Instead of setting up each card individually, the administrator manages the group as one program.

Key benefit: set up in minutes, with more consistency and fewer repetitive tasks.

‍

Bulk Card Management

MashCash supports CSV-based card management. Administrators can upload a roster to create one card per person, create a batch of cards to print as a PDF, export card information, and resend card links to a whole program at once.

That is especially useful for workplaces, campuses, healthcare facilities, and other organizations with frequently changing populations. When a new group needs cards, teams can upload a roster instead of creating cards one at a time.

Key benefit: easier onboarding and program updates at scale.

Digital Card Delivery and Checkout

MashCash cards can be delivered digitally by email or, where enabled, SMS. Cardholders can open their digital card page to view their QR code and balance. Cards can also be printed as a PDF to hand out.

At a Mashgin kiosk, the cardholder simply scans a QR code to pay. No paper voucher required—and no searching through an inbox while a lunch line forms.

Key benefit: convenient access for cardholders and fewer printing, replacement, and support tasks for operators.

Program-Level Usage Controls

Depending on configuration, MashCash programs can include controls for eligible or restricted items, day and time windows, the number of uses per day, and expiration dates.

These controls help organizations define not only how much value a person receives, but also how the benefit should work.

Key benefit: clearer program guardrails with a smoother checkout experience.

Reporting and Transaction Visibility

MashCash provides a transaction ledger, an Explore view, and CSV exports. Teams can review activity by program, location, cardholder, issuer, or card type, and tag each program to a cost center.

This visibility helps finance teams monitor outstanding value and transaction activity, while program administrators can evaluate usage and investigate issues more easily.

Key benefit: better reconciliation and fewer disconnected spreadsheets.

Integration With Mashgin Cloud

MashCash works with Mashgin Cloud groups and access. Administrators can manage programs in a structure connected to their existing locations and organizational setup instead of maintaining a separate set of accounts and users.

Key benefit: less duplicated setup and a more consistent administrative experience.
‍

Common MashCash Use Cases

MashCash can support programs such as:

  • Employee meal stipends and recurring allowances
  • Guest and visitor meal vouchers
  • Campus stored-value programs
  • Patient, caregiver, or staff meal credits
  • Event and promotional credits
  • Multi-Use Voucher programs

Whether an organization is supporting ten visitors or a large employee population, MashCash provides a structured way to create, deliver, and track value.

Benefits for Administrators and Cardholders

For administrators, MashCash brings card creation, program rules, distribution, bulk updates, and reporting into one platform. For cardholders, it offers a straightforward way to access a balance and pay at Mashgin checkout.

The result is a stored-value experience with fewer operational steps behind the scenes and fewer payment hurdles at the point of sale.
